New Beginnings
Welcome to my new art blog! Actually I have been writing an art blog off and on for several years, but lately it has been more off than on. Now with my new web host, both website and blog are under one roof. The site was created for artists like me who would rather spend quality time working in the studio than fighting with technology. Besides, having everything in one location makes more sense. More time for painting and hopefully more regularity in blogging. Once or twice a week maybe? I promise to try anyway.
I would also like to welcome you to my new studio. After thirty plus years my husband and I moved from a small town in Iowa to one of the fastest growing cities in the country. (Fastest growing, not largest.) Someone told me that the stress level of moving is right up there with losing a family member. I don't know about that and really don't want to know, but it is definitely stressful, especially for artists. We have our "gear" - some of it useless and some of it priceless, but all of it couldn't move with us. Decisions had to be made, leading to either relief or trauma. The joy of setting up a new studio did seem to make it all worthwhile. Change is good, even though I didn't eat to give up the skylights and bank of north light windows in our old studio. In our new home I chose the largest of the spare bedrooms for my studio on the main floor. Natural light, if more northeast than true north, but light is light and color-corrected bulbs really do help. Once the carpeting was replaced with laminate wood flooring, setting up the studio was just a matter of moving in the furniture and finding and sorting all the art materials. Out of boxes and boxes, labeled simply "Art Stuff." Why did we do that?

There will be more studio space for us both in our walk out basement. My husband also discovered a built in gallery with recessed lighting. He seems to have hung all my paintings of the last twenty years or so - the good, the bad, and the ugly - as well as a few of his own beautiful ones.
